THE IMPORTANCE OF DENTAL BRIDGES

A single loose nut is enough to dismantle a wheel. Similarly, a single broken, missing or decayed tooth is enough to rot the entire set of teeth and gums in a person’s mouth.

Teeth are extremely sensitive parts of the body. A single tooth with a problem can lead to a variety of complex dental conditions. That’s why it’s important for you to consult a qualified dentist in case you observe or experience something uncommon with your teeth.

A single damaged tooth seldom requires full-fledged dental treatment. Fitting a dental bridge can relieve you of the pain and discomfort you experience when your tooth is damaged or diseased.

Somi Dental Group & Orthodontics is a premier dentistry clinic located in the heart of Boynton Beach, Florida. We are led by renowned dentist Dr. Arnaldo A Lopez (DDS), and are expert in the application a host of dental procedures including dental bridges. If you’d like more information, feel free to give us a call or drop by our office!

WHAT ARE DENTAL BRIDGES?

Injuries to the jaw or a dental condition may result in your losing a tooth.

With the tooth gone, there is now an unsightly gap in your mouth. This gap can cause a lot of problems if unaddressed. A dental bridge is a type of prosthetic that is used to fill in this gap in the teeth.

This, along with another prosthetic called the crown, are used to improve the appearance of broken, damaged and diseased teeth. Crowns are cap-like prosthetics which are inserted on top of a tooth, to help it gain height and shape.

At Somi Dental Group & Orthodontics, our team has worked on a myriad of patients, fitting them with crowns and dental bridges. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

WHY WOULD YOU NEED A DENTAL BRIDGE?

  • Loose teeth can affect the growth of permanent teeth in children, permanently affecting their bite. A dental bridge can remedy this.
  • The incorrect position of teeth due to gaps can lead to pain, inflammation and severe shift in the position of other teeth.
  • Absence of teeth can affect the person’s ability to talk, chew and swallow.

FITTING YOUR DENTAL BRIDGES

The teeth used in dental bridges are called pontics, and they are made using porcelain, silver amalgam or gold.

They are held in place using crowns (also called abutments), which give the teeth a natural length while holding the pontics firmly in place in the jaw. For every single dental bridge that needs to be fitted, two crowns need to be fitted too. So, the more the bridges that need to be created, the more the crowns that need to be fitted. During your consultation, your dentist at Somi Dental Group & Orthodontics will advise you about the number of bridges and crowns you require for your treatment.

Before fitting the dental bridge, he will first fit two crowns on either side of the gap in your teeth, in order to create a supportive framework for the bridge. Next, he will insert the dental bridge into the gap and fix it in place using medical-grade dental cement. This particular cement is designed to be completely non-toxic even when accidentally ingested, ensuring that you are safe. This feature makes the dental bridge and crowns procedure extremely safe even for little children.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The best feature of dental bridges is how they closely resemble the appearance of natural teeth. No one who looks at your teeth will ever know that you have a dental bridge or crowns.

Dental bridges and crowns can also be fitted on implants, making them the ideal choice for your dental restoration needs. Take a look at some of our before & after pictures to see the work we have done in the past.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR DENTAL BRIDGES?

Absolutely anyone, of any age, can get a bridge fitted into their teeth.

However, dentists recommend that people with weak gums and those with teeth rot or gum disease avoid this procedure, since the drilling will put significant stress on the patient’s teeth and gums. Dr. Lopez and his team will analyze the strength and health of the teeth and gums before recommending this treatment for you or your child.

At Somi Dental Group & Orthodontics, we can mold the bridges and crowns in-office, and we always take your exact measurements to ensure that the bridges and crowns are personalized to the most minute degree. Our highly-customized dental care solution is renowned across the Pinecrest, Coconut Grove, and Coral Gables neighborhoods. We cater to patients of any age: moms, dads, grandparents and children.
